The
Best Questions to ask your Wedding Photographer
1) Can I see ALL of
the pictures from 2 or 3 samples weddings from the first shot of the
day to the last shot? It is
easy to pick 3 - 5 good pictures out of every wedding they've
ever done to show you their best. Ask to see a whole weddings worth
to find out their style because what you see is truly what you are
going to get. If you are
not seeing all of the work then there might be something they are
trying to hide. 3-5 pictures per wedding is only about 1-3% of the
work. Can you imaging grading a person's efficacy on only 1-3%? It
would be like grading an exam so that if you got 100 questions, you
would only need to get a 2 or 3 right to get an "A"!
2) Who is going
to shoot the wedding? Make sure
you know who is going to actually be shooting your wedding and that
it is not going to be farmed out. Some
all in one packaged wedding boutiques don't even know who is shooting
your wedding until very close to your wedding.
3) How many of
your Photographers are going to be at our wedding through the whole
day? We recommend 1 photographer
for every 100 guests. Keep in mind that you might not need them all
for the whole day. The more photographers you have, the more
perspectives and shots you will get.
4) What time do
you start and finish your coverage?
Ask this and then ask if they have an hourly rate in case you need more
time.
5) How many days
will it be until I get my proofs and finished products?
Proofs in 2-3 days and finished products in 1 to 3 weeks is responsible.
Anything more is unprofessional.
6) Do you sell
the negatives to your client? If
not, why are you paying for their services but not getting all of the
goods?
7) If
I change my mind, can I get back my deposit? See if this is reasonable.
Most photographers
will refund most if not all of your deposit. Get this in writing if you
can.
Always
make sure that your photographers (and all of your wedding vendors)
are thinking of your best interests. If you felt that you are being
sold things you do not need, that you are being pressured to leave
a deposit or there is a "our way or the highway" mentality,
it is probably a good time to shop around more. Many bad vendors ask
for deposits early as they know if you shop around, you will probably
not go back to them. It is good practice to think out your choices
thoroughly before leaving a deposit.
FAQ
about Storybook Wedding Photography
How do I get more info? To make an appointment to see us
please call Ron at 604-761-2253. We will reply to any email questions
within 24 hours of its posting
What do I need to confirm booking
with Storybook? We require 1/4 down to confirm
the day, 1/2 before the wedding day and the balance at the completion
of our work. Due to our demand, we cannot hold dates unless there
is a deposit.
How many weddings do you do
each weekend? We only take 1
booking each day and typically only one per week but may do 2 in a week if
the circumstances are favourable for everyone. Our goal is to do the best
we can, not to do the most.
How can you get the wedding projects
done so quickly? Ron and Bill are used to deadlines
measured in minutes or hours. Also, they are honest, down to earth
guys. They are thrilled and anxious to show you their work as soon
as possible. The real question should be why do other photographers
take so long? Film processing takes about 30 minutes. Proof printing
for 200 pictures requires about 1 hour. Digital pictures, contrary
to common belief, actually take longer as software requires time to
process and render the photos expertly as images are recorded in professional
RAW mode and not JPGs as most consumer cameras are. Typically 24
working hours are required to go through a wedding’s worth
of pictures to get them ready for proofing.
Do
you do studio shots? Yup! We have backdrops,
professional lighting and even portable scaffolding to enable us to do
portable studio shooting which is our recommendation as a back up plan for
rainy or snowy days.
What kind of cameras do you use? This is a guy question. We use
only professional digital cameras and shoot only in RAW mode. The
cameras we use are Canon 1Ds (11 Mega pixels),
Canon 1DM2 (8 Mega pixels), Nikon D2H (4 Mega Pixels),
Nikon D2X (12 Mega pixels -The fastest DSLR available) & Nikon
D100s (6 Mega pixels). Collectively, we
have more than $100,000 worth of equipment. As of January1, 2005 we
have both the fastest and the largest Mpxl SLRs available in the world.
We do have film cameras too if you prefer to go the old fashioned
way too. Medium format can be requested for group portraits.
Can I use only 1 of your photographers? No, as we would not be able to
maintain the quality of work with less than 2 photographers. It is
that simple. Each photographer has a task at your wedding. For example,
one will do main shots which include formals and artistic, another
will do candids and detail. For larger weddings we suggest additional
photographers (1 for every additional 100-150 guests up to 5) and
support staff and site manager if you require more services.
Can
we book you for only part of the day?
No, to consistently produce and maintain the quality of work we need
to shoot the whole day to have enough shots to make your wedding photos
Storybook Photos.
What is your refund
Policy? If you decide to
cancel before the wedding, you will get 100% of your refund if you let us
know within 3 months. No refunds are issued after the wedding day. We do
guarantee the quality of our work and will do anything it takes to ensure
your complete satisfaction within reason.
What are your back up plans if
something goes wrong? We have back up photographers and
equipment on standby for all of our events. As we also shoot for media
for many unpredictable events we are very good in anticipating every
contingency. We have contingencies for poor weather as well.
Do you do weddings outside of
Vancouver? Yes, The added costs will be airfare,
hotel, transfers and a small daily meal allowance. Generally, it will
be the costs to get our photographers to your location and to make
sure they can get around effectively. We would like to arrive a day
before and leave a day after unless you want us to remain in town
to have all of the pictures completed which will take a few days.
Who will be shooting our wedding? We have 5 photographers on staff
of which can, accumulatively, speak 4 different languages. In addition
we have 3 editors/graphic artists as well. We encourage that you meet
with them before you confirm your booking.
What
is a Baby side show?
We can produce slide shows for you to display at your reception. Typically,
the pictures span your life from your infant days to your engagement.
We can also include your same day wedding ceremony pictures in this
slide show if you so desire. We require about 50 pictures and a music
selection to complete it. Of course we offer projector and screen
rentals as well.
What is on site printing? Since Storybook Photographers use
mainly digital cameras we can process the RAW digital files on site
and bring along a photo-quality printer to do prints on site from
4X6 up to 13X19. This is great for guests that are only in town for
the day or for instant keepsakes (or instant thank you cards). There
is a limit on the number of pictures and prints we can do given the
time.
Can you do
a web site for our out of town guests?
Of course we can! We can publish your storybook wedding side show
for them to download as well as putting up pictures for them to view.
They can download a selection of hi-resolution photos or request specific
ones by email as putting all of your pictures on-line would be too
memory and time consuming for downloading.
